However, only 72% of surgically treated acetabular fractures achieve good clinical outcome and the rate of posttraumatic arthritis is generally high, especially when the anatomy has not been restored completely. It is widely accepted that high hip contact stress may by the key factor influencing development of the arthrosis. Within this study, the effect of fracture fragment malreduction on the hip contact stress was studied. It was shown, that even a reduction that is considered as anatomic according to clinical grading may considerably increase peak contact stress and so contribute to post-traumatic arthritis development. The results show an importance of accurate reconstruction of the acetabular geometry in operative treatment of the acetabular fracture."@en .
