"This paper describes the application of artificial intelligence methods (specifically the standard genetic algorithm method and the simulated annealing method) with the help of which we can evaluate the credibility loss of data acquired from a sensor - so-called sensor discrediblity. The proposed sensor model based algorithm is able to discover biased sensor properties without adding more sensors. For example, in order to achieve an optimal combustion process it is necessary to control the flow rate of the air supplied to the combustion chamber. In the pilot stoker fired boiler the flow rate of the air supplied into the combustion chamber is controlled by an oxygen controller with the aim to keep the content of oxygen in the flue gases at the desired value. A serious increase in harmful emissions may occur after the oxygen probe starts to provide biased data, and it has not been possible to detect this increase without an additional oxygen probe."@en .
