Stabilizing effect of the membrane on load carrying capacity of the supporting structure is of the primary interest. While such structures are becoming frequent, complex analysis of membrane structures in interaction with steel structure (carbon/stainless steel perimeter or supporting elements) is rather demanding. To compare theoretical assumptions and results with reality, the model of a concert stage covered by fabric membrane and supported by arches was tested in laboratory and verified by numerical analysis. The model of reasonable size was created and tested to clarify the effect of the membrane on arch stability/deflection. Form of the structure was developed with help of form-finding software based on force-density method while prestressing and membrane stresses were received using SOFiSTiK software. Arrangement, membrane prestressing, loading steps and test evaluation is described in a detail. Finally preliminary theoretical arch assessment and test results are presented." . .
