"Hydraulic structures are often equipped with steel constructions that are in contact with the flowing water. The fluid structure interaction can, under specific circumstances, cause instabilities and vibrations of the dynamic system, consisting of the construction and flowing water. Flood gates for instance present good example of such structures liable to vibrations as they usually experience large deformations when subjected to characteristic load. Deformations are responsible for the change of the boundary conditions with respect to fluid flow which also could cause additional deformation. Another source of flow induced vibrations could be instability of the overflowing nappe. Vibrations present undesirable phenomenon when considering hydraulic structures in general. Due to specific on-site conditions, every hydraulic structure presents unique construction and the design assumptions could be far from the reality. The method provides detailed course of action for measurement and evaluation of hydraulic structures experiencing vibration.
