"Presently in civil engineering the focus is oriented in road construction on techniques, which allow reduction of energy consumption during production and paving. At the same time such solutions should minimize cost for new pavement structures. Introduced presumptions are reflected by the technology of cold asphalt emulsion mixtures (CMA). Cold asphalt emulsion mixes are made by mineral material of quarried aggregates or sand and specific slowly-breaking cationic bituminous emulsion, which can by applied at normal (summer) outside temperatures used for lightly trafficked road. In the Czech Republic there is presently no history with cold asphalt emulsion mixes, therefore there is not sufficient experimental and practical experience with using these mixtures. It is only possible to use some analogies from experience with solutions applied in terms of cold asphalt pavement recycling. With regard to absence of valid technical manual and unfinished preliminary technical specifications prepare under the supervision of Ministry of Transportation in the Czech Republic, French procedure, standardized specifications and experience have been used as basis for experimental assessments. In terms of experimental activity cold asphalt emulsion mixture acceptable for use in surface pavement courses has been used and subsequently selected physical, mechanical and performance characteristics have been evaluated.
