"Alkaline activation of fly ash provides further possibilities of application of the material in various fields of civil engineering. A great asset of this material is its high resistance to an aggressive environment, both acid and alkaline. The effect of the amount of heat and time given during the process of alkaline activation to physical and mechanical parameters of the cement-free concrete is summarised in this paper. Another possible application of alkaline-activated fly ash is a development of porous material. Porosity is achieved by gas forming addition of metal or powdered amorphous silica admixture, or by adding a foam forming additive. An advantage of thus formed material is mainly energy saving and reduction of some stages of current production process of geopolymer concrete while reaching similar mechanical qualities. Alkaline-activated fly ash can be well used as a substitute for cement when manufacturing specific cement-containing products. Currently, the material is mainly used as a cement substitute in cement chipboards. A maximal attention is paid to using the current technological and production processes when developing mixtures for fly ash chipboards." . . . . . .
