These volume changes can be a source of cracks, which distorts the structure of concrete, and in its consequences leads to lower quality and durability of whole structures. One of the possibilites to reduce the negative impact of shrinkage is the addition of various types of additives and ingredients. One of such additives is metakaolin. Previous published works are more focused on monitoring the workability of freshly prepared mixtures and achieving the declared mechanical parameters. In this paper we discuss the volume changes of cement mixtures with the addition of different amounts of metakaolin, partially replacing cementitious binder, and its influence on the magnitude of volume changes in the process of hydration. Autogenous shrinkage was measured using laser scanners. Measured values were compared with autogenous shrinkage of cement paste without metakaolin."@en . . . .
