"A preparation of several transport tunnels with proposed mechanical excavation using TBMs is currently ongoing in the Czech Republic. The most advanced is construction of the Prague's metro line A extension, where TBM excavation will start in 2011, generation of segments for the tunnel lining started in 2010. Evaluation of the use of steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) segments is ongoing in connection with this project. The use of SFRC segments was verified on several projects. This technology was used mostly on small-diameter tunnels (water and gas tunnels, sewers, etc.), in some cases it was used for metro (London, Barcelona, Naples). More extensive use of SFRC segments was applied on Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) in the United Kingdom, where 2 x 24 km of single-track tunnels were constructed using SFRC segments without steel bars.
