"The paper explains the most important impacts of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the receiving waters and presents two case studies (Hloucela and Jansky potok) where biological-ecological survey was applied in order to validate results of the numerical assessment which revealed possible problems with suspended solids due to CSOs in both catchments and chemical stress in Jansky potok. The biological assessment based on benthic invertebrates confirmed the results of the numerical assessment. Additionally, it determined the degree and distance of the ecological status deterioration, which showed to be highly dependent on the degradation of the stream morphology (250 m in Jansky potok whereas >650 m in Hloucela).
