"The CTU in Prague has recently opened a facility dedicated to practical teaching, training and, importantly, to research. The Josef Underground Educational Facility (www.uef-josef.eu) is operated by the Centre of Experimental Geotechnics. The facility is located in central Bohemia and consists of an underground complex excavated during the 1980s to explore the possibility of gold extraction in the area. In 2007 the gallery was converted in-to a unique facility the main role of which is to provide an opportunity for practical experience in the fields of underground structures, geotechnics, surveying and geology. The wide range of geological conditions available provides excellent opportunities for in-situ research and full-scale physical modelling. Moreover, the broad range of research-oriented activities on offer provides a host of opportunities for students to be introduced to the real-life problems associated with in-situ physical modelling, new methods, materials and technologies."@en .
