Both of them have some specific amount of pores that affect their behaviour by transport of water and salts. It is important to monitor and protect materials used in historical buildings against degradation processes because of cultural heritage preservation demand. Most of problems are caused by crystallization pressures of salts formerly inflowed by water into the porous structure. This fact can lead to a partial damage of material structure or in worse case to the destruction of the whole system.
