"Current research at CTU in Prague on presence and influence of residual stresses in austenitic stainless steel hollow sections is listed and discussed. Experimental investigation of residual stresses induced by cold-forming and welding processing is described in detail. Both surface and through thickness residual stresses have been measured by X-ray diffraction method and verified by sectioning method. Arrangement of the X-ray measuring, used instrumentation and results with respect to the effect of longitudinal welding are given in detail. The resulting residual stresses are subsequently used in the FEM model to determine their influence on resistance of the member in compression. The numerical model originates from ABAQUS software and includes non-linear stress-strain diagram and enhanced strength corner properties to obtain relevant credibility of the solution.
