"In the present contribution, a numerical simulation of the inelastic behavior of the Charles Bridge in Prague with the emphasis on the heterogeneous character of the material is presented. The results of numerical two-level analysis of the historical masonry, performed on the two-dimensional mesoscopic periodic unit cells and on the macroscopic three-dimensional Charles Bridge arch segment are summarized in this study. Distribution of the temperature field within the structure obtained using the DEPLHIN finite volume code are used to determine the temperature impact on the bridge. The results show a predisposition of some parts of the structure to damage in agreement with crack patterns observed in the real structure. Finally, a proper strategy for the determination of water pressure distribution for bridge piers based on uncoupled solution of the fluid-structure interaction is briefly outlined." . . . . . .
