"The objective of this work was to optimize the pressure of supercritical CO2 extraction (40 °C, 9-30 MPa) of eucalyptus leaves to reach maximal insecticidal activity of extract. Several methods of extract fractionation were applied to increase the concentration of volatiles in extract. Firstly, a time fractionation with gradually increased solvent density was carried out using one separator. In addition, the SFE combined with extract fractionation in two separators and fractionation with use of appropriate sorbent was applied. The efficiency of SFE in terms of volatile fraction composition, yield and insecticidal activity was compared with hydrodistillation. The composition of volatiles in the isolates was determined by GC-MS and GC-FID. The insecticidal activity of isolates was measured on larvae of Spodoptera litoralis in terms of antifeedancy (ED50), acute and chronic toxicity (LD50). Yield, composition and insecticidal activity of extracts were strongly influenced by the experimental conditions. The efficiency of CO2 extracts was comparable with that of hydrodistillate. However, the chronical toxicity (LD50 = 8 µg) of the extract obtained at 40°C and 30 MPa was almost two times higher than that of the hydrodistillate."@en . "Centro Stampa di Ateneo" .
