"Today more and more scientists are accepting the view that, alongside the two indisputable 'revolutions' of the 20th century (namely, the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics), a third has emerged: chaos theory. It is interesting, albeit not especially encouraging in a certain sense, that all three establish definite limits to our knowledge of the world around us. The first defines the limit of the speed at which energy and information may be tranferred, while the second sets the lower limit for the size of interactions among systems. Chaos and non-linear dynamics signify a definite limit to more precise prediction of the behavior of simple systems over a longer time horizon. Given the current rapid development of the latter two disciplines, we should have a definitive answer to the question posed by the title of the article relatively soon."@en . .
