"The invented process for preparing aluminium alpha-oxide for progressive ceramic materials is characterized in that 6 to 7 parts of 20 to 30 percent ammonium aqueous solution are added into 20 to 25 parts of water with temperature in the range of 50 to 70 degC. Subsequently, 8 to 12 parts of alum stone are added thereto. Further, the reaction mixture is mixed for a period of 8 to 12 minutes and afterwards it is cooled down. The so obtained suspension is separated, washed and poured with water, and 0.02 to 0.03 parts of Mg(OH)i2 containing 10.5 to 11.0 percent of MgO per 30 to 40 parts of the suspension containing 7 to 10 percent of dry matter are added thereto. Subsequently, the reaction mixture is agitated for a period of 2 to 5 hours. The obtained intermediate is ground, dried and then calcined at a heating rate of 3 to 7 degC/min to a temperature of 180 to 210 degC. This temperature value is then maintained for a period of 11 to 15 hours. Finally, the reaction mixture is again calcined at the same heating rate to a temperature value of 1150 to 1300 degC, and this temperature is maintained for a period of 45 to 90 minutes.
