"Platinum group metals (PGM): platinum, palladium and rhodium are in foreground of current research interest in view of the pollution of the environment. These rare elements are used as catalytic effective substances in automotive catalysts to reduce polluting emissions originating from fuel combustion. The main source of contamination surface waters is rainfall runoff from roads with high traffic density. We have based our study on PtCl4, PdCl2, RhCl3 effects on duckweed (Lemna minor) vegetative growth monitoring and comparison of inhibitory effects. The duckweed is a significant ecotoxical bioindicator revealing changes in aquatic environment. The experiments were carried out on the basis of OECD 221 (\u010CSN ISO 20079). The growth inhibition and morphological changes in individual colonies of fronds have been found out as a result of the effect of platinum group metals. The EC50 (effective concentration) was determined after 7 - day test. 168hEC50 PtCl4 was estimated on12.2 ?M.
