Wild birds are often considered to be a potential reservoir for C. jejuni in nature and possible source of human infections.The incidence and antibiotic resistance patterns of Campylobacter spp. strains isolated from farmed quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were estimated. The genetic homogeneity was analysed by PCR/RFLP and PFGE subtyping. Incidence of Campylobacter spp. in farmed quails (n = 50) was 86 %. A total of 7 PFGE subtypes were noted among the Campylobacter spp. isolates. C. jejuni clones could be divided into 7 fla-RFLP subtypes. The highes frequency of PFGE profiles was estimated for patterns designated CH, C, D and M. The most common PCR profiles were restriction patterns combinations numbered 6, 10, 7 and 34.
