"Leptin is a hormone that is produced primarily by adipocytes. Production and expression of specific leptin receptors was proved also in ovarian tissue. The function of leptin in relation to female reproduction is associated with the induction of ovarian cycles. In female guinea pigs with polycystic ovaries can be expected change in the expression of leptin receptors. Tissue samples come from the group of healthy female guinea pigs (control) and from a group of guinea pigs with polycystic ovarian syndrome. The samples were used for serial histological sections, the first section was stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and the remaining sections were used for immunohistochemical detection of a specific receptor for leptin. Based on the processed results in the ovarian tissue of guinea pigs with polycystic ovarian syndrome were demonstrated expression of leptin receptor in the lining of cysts which confirms the role of leptin in polycystic ovary syndrome in guinea pig ."@en .
