"At the present time three basic methods are used for DNA fingerprinting in plants: RAPD, micro-satellites and AFLP. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages. As a rule we can say that the more sophisticated technology we use, the more significant and reproducible the results. For the characterization of early somatic embryo culture clones of Norway spruce in our laboratory we chose RAPD because it is a quick and undemanding method. The RAPD markers are said to have a lower reproducibility of the results. This lower reproducibility can be eliminated using Sequence Characterized Amplified Regions for amplification of specific band (SCAR).
