"The aim of this publication is to determine the specific soil properties in the initial set of selected eppipedons in quarries and similar natural habitats of sout-eastern Bohemian Massif. The other aim was to determine the kind of regularity in the spread of pioneer tree species in these localities. The last but not the least, an important task was to find a suitable reference entity for quarries. Dry pine forest, located in the South Moravian region, was chosen as a comparative habitat. The research area is located along boundaries of Hercynian bio geographical sub provinces and Western Carpathians bio geographical subprovice (Central Europe, the province of deciduous and mixed forests), where borders of the south eastern part of the Bohemian Massif and Western Carpathians could be found as well. The dominating factor are forests from associations of Melico Fagetum- and Caricipilosae - Fagetum (200 - 550 meters, 8.7 to 6.5 \u00B0 C; 500-600 mm/year). Quarries in this area are one of the most serious interventions into landscape. Therefore, the investigation is mainly focused on the description of soil heterogeneity in this region which is strongly influenced by men. Samples of initial soil substrates were analyzed from quarries in conglomerates (Lower Carboniferous), limestone (Upper Devonian), gneiss, metabasites (varinsk\u00E9 age) and granodiorites (kadoms age) in partially devastated habitats, forest steppes, coppice and mature forests. Mapping of geobiocenologic characteristics has brought expected interdependent factors in the spread of pioneer tree species. The spread is then based on the quarry ground inclination; orientation and the occurence of trees in the neighbourhood as well as on significant human activity (see problematic revitalization Forest Quarry). Various types of soils, which were studied, were later defined as the initial soils. Then, types of Leptosols were observed at the comparison sites.
