"Sugars, organic acids and amino acids are dominant components of plant root exudates. These compounds also occur in root exudates of sugar beet where 2 sugars, 8 organic acids and 12 amino acids were identified. Current research of sugar beet root exudates is focused to determine significance of organic acids in mobilization of inorganically bound phosphorus and potassium in soil. Oxalic, oxalacetic, citric, salicylic, citramalic or malonic acids were found to be significant in this aspect. The significance of extracellular produced acid phosphomonoesterase by sugar beet roots from the point of its role in total phosphorus nutrition was not evaluated in the World literature so far. Occurrence of toxic and terratogenic non-protein azetidin-2-carboxylic acid (AZ2K) in sugar beet and table beet in trace amount was reported in different works. This amino acid may enter food chains through direct consummation or transfer via byproducts of sucrose production to be used as a feed for livestock. Occurrence of AZ2K thus may lead to development of different disease of livestock or human. Further research should be concentrated to determine the significance of AZ2K inputs to food chains via the use of sugar beet and table beet."@en .
