"Four basic biotopes were selected for conditions of fir-beech forest altitudinal zone of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids Mts. (Central Europe, Czech Republic): (1) beechwood; (2) mown meadow; (3) abandoned meadow; and (4) spruce stand. The sites are situated between 850 and 970 m above sea level. There are average temperatures between +6,3 and +4,7 \u00B0C and annual precipitation 1,000 -- 1,350 mm, approximately. The aim of this work was to observe the responses of soil biological activity due to long-term existence in closed system conditions with stable temperature (+5 \u00B0C) and soil moisture (20 -- 36 %). Soil samples were taken from A-horizons in September 2005. The activities of acid phosphomonoesterase (APME), urease and casein-protease as well as ammonium (N-NH4+) and nitrate (N-NO3-) nitrogen and organic carbon were obtained.
