"The paper attempts at a comparison of the root system architecture development in Norway spruce, Scots pine and pedunculate oak from artificial and natural regeneration. It was found out by the analysis of 637 trees in 56 stands aged from established plantations up to thirty years (i.e. to the time of the first serious threat to the mechanical stability of the stands) growing in optimum site conditions that the stands of Norway spruce and Scots pine from natural regeneration exhibit a greater predisposition (stability of the stands not being guaranteed only by the root system) to assure their mechanical stability than the stands established artificially by planting. Pedunculate oak did not show any significant differences in the development of the root system in trees established by sowing (as a simulation of natural regeneration) and artifically by planting."@en . . . .
