"In the given paper the Hopkinson Split Pressure Bar method is used for the determination of the mechanical properties of wood at the strain rates ranging up to 103 - 104 s-1 which are typical for many impact events. Specimens of Spruce, Pine, Oak and Basswood are tested. The dependence of the crushing strength on the strain rate is evaluated. This strength increases with the strain rate and its value is about three times higher than that obtained at the static loading test.
