"The aim of this study was to estimate the coverage of soil surface by selected catch crops using methods of image analysis and evaluate the relationship between the coverage and biomass. A small-plot field experiment was conducted in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic with ten different stubble crop species and cultivars (totally 14 variants with 4 replications). The crop stands were photographed by hand every year in late autumn during the 2008 - 2012 period using digital single-lens reflex camera Nikon D80 to get three nadir images in visible spectrum per plot. A maximum likelihood classification was used to classify the pixel values into two classes (soil, vegetation) based on the separately signature file for every year. The coverage of catch crops was then calculated as a percentage of pixels count in determined class and compared with the aboveground biomass (fresh and dry matter). The ANOVA analysis showed significant differences of biomass and coverage among the crop species for evaluated period. Both these parameters were strongly influenced by year, respectively by its weather condition during the growth period. The comparison between biomass and coverage using regression analysis reached high significant positive correlation. The method of image analysis showed the possibility of using the visible images for assessment of crop biomass." . "73266" . . "Lukas, Vojt\u011Bch" . "62" . "Supplement" .
