"Drought tolerance is a complex character whose evaluation is very difficult. Commonly the physiological and morphological methods are used to evaluate the mechanisms leading to plants tolerance. The plants of three winter wheat varieties (Etela, Meritto and Venistar) and Syrian line with different drought tolerance levels were grown until 4-5 leaf stage (early tillering) and then left to dry. A stress reaction of young plants was characterized by RWC (Relative Water Content), OP (Osmotic Pressure) and SRL (Specific Root Length). The slowest onset of severe stress response and the highest values of SRL were found in variety Meritto. Dynamic of stress reaction of tested Syrian variety or size of its root system did not differ surprisingly from a variety Etela at this growth stage."@en . .
