"This paper discusses some of the possibilities of the cultivation of human lived experience by the medium of techniques of awareness that have their own roots in the traditions of both Western (phenomenological) and the Eastern (Buddhist meditation techniques) schools of thought. The paper is in three parts. The first part is devoted to a critical analysis of the phenomenological method as outlined by Husserl and then reformulated by his pupils (Pato\u010Dka, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty). The analysis here focuses on the first crucial step within the phenomenological method, namely the phenomenological reduction and its considerably controversial methodical fulfilment. The second part deals with the methodical outlining of basic steps within the Buddhist meditation practice of mindfulness (sati), as presented in Maha-satipatthana Sutta, taking into account some of its contemporary interpretations (Analayo, U Tejaniya, S. N. Goenka). The analysis here focuses on the phenomenological problem of the processes of mindfulness in an attempt to show their wide range and their methodical anchoring. The ambition of the third part of the paper is to point out a possible methodological correction of phenomenology from the point of view of the systematic practice of mindfulness. The article is not trying to find a %22connection between meditation and phenomenology%22 but it deals with the problem of the training of awareness or the training of the phenomenological insight, that is common to both traditions. The main purpose of the paper is to draw attention to the constantly neglected fact that phenomenology or the practice of %22the sight of the mind%22 is not any doctrine of its main representatives (Husserl, Heidegger), or any -ism, but (just) the method whose cultivation is a matter of a choice for every human being."@en . .
