"Atmospheric pressure ion sources are important for a broader applicability of mass spectrometry, e.g. in area of analysis of physiologically interesting compounds. Study of ionization in our department showed that besides common experimental parameters (flow-rate of nebulizing or drying gas, temperature of gases, of an ion source or an entrance capillary to an evacuated part of an instrument etc.) ionization can be influenced efficiently using pressure elevated above atmospheric level. A laboratory device developed for a control of pressure in the ion source allows: 1. to increase pressure in the source up to 100 kPa; 2. to measure pressure; 3. to conduct away un-gasified portion of liquid sample from the source. Mass spectrometric experiments proved that: 1. use of the device allows an increase of compound response (even more than one order); 2. set-up of pressure can change the ionization selectivity, e.g. a decrease of signal of interfering compounds in comparison to target analyte."@en . .
