In cereals, the velocity of senescence of the flag leaf determines subsequent power and quantity of assimilate transport to the ripening seeds. Hence, a triggered manipulation of cytokinin content via engineered regulation of CKX gene expression becomes a promising tool to alter yield attributes in cereals.
