"The general topic of this book is the sociology of learning formulated by Peter Jarvis. More specifically this book characterises Jarvis's sociological approach towards education and adult education/education of adults; towards learning and lifelong learning. In the present Peter Jarvis formulates the basic principles of his comprehensive theory of learning and therefore this theory is also one of the important subjects of this book. The text of this book is based on outcomes of previous theoretical research which was designed as a combination of deductive quantitative research strategy and inductive qualitative methodology. In general the research aimed to become a conceptual chronological overview of the scientific work of Peter Jarvis and was based on the quantitative analysis of the main theoretical categories formulated by Peter Jarvis himself which was followed by reconceptualization of such categories into integrated theoretical frames in relation to the Czech sociology, andragogy and theory of learning. The subject of this book is the whole Jarvis' work in the diachronic and synchronic perspective with a specific regard towards its possible andragogical dimension. The book is divided into a few chapters. The is the Introduction and after that there are two chapters focusing on the diachronic perspective of Peter Jarvis work and then on the diachronic-synchronic thematic perspective of the theoretical concepts offered by Peter Jarvis in his books and articles. In the process of reconceptualization the author of this monograph worked almost unreservedly with the original books written by Peter Jarvis. In the chapter number four it is the Jarvis' andragogical discourse that is introduced and that is why this part of the book deals also with the work of the Czech experts especially sociologists and andragogues."@en . . .
