"The study summarizes the evolution of Philip Roth's work in the context of the American literature from his literary beginnings in the late 1950th to the publication of highly valued tetralogy Zuckerman Bound in the mid of the 1980th. Early Roth's books are interpreted through the well-known Roth's interest in Henry James: the fundament is concern in the protagonists and their temperament and every action is subordinated to the portrayals of characters. Lately Roth left the realistic narrative mode and begun to postmodern experiment (and play) with a boundaries of facts and fiction. Philip Roth's way to postmodern novel wasn't part of any aesthetical programme or his at-tempt to keep up with the times and literary fashion. Roth reached the postmodern nar-rative by very specific way - by the work with an autobiographical material and playing with reader's expectation and anticipation."@en .
