"Glucometer and strips systems (GSS) approved for home use should calibrate their B-glucose (BG) readings to plasma glucose values (PG) measured by laboratory analyzers. Nevertheless, differences between some meter- and lab values appear. Aim of this study was to check accuracy (mean PG-mean BG) and precision (SD) of four GSS (one Advance, Hypoguard; two Cards, Medisense; one Optium, Medisense) and to find simple correction factors to equalize their readings to the lab results. Methods: Five samples of heparinized blood were prepared by spiking method to contain 2, 5, 15, 20 and 30 mM glucose, then kept at 24 - 28oC and, one after another, investigated. In each sample, PG was estimated 20 times (within 12 min) by the analyzer IL 600 (Instrument Laboratory, USA) and, at the same time, BG was estimated 20 times in each of four GSS using one batch of respective strips.
