"The traditional practise in rotor dynamics analysis is to use beam models of rotor for vibration analysis. Such an analysis limits the capabilities for the modern day design of high-speed machinery. The paper deals with investigation of dynamic characteristics of the rotor systems by means computer program ANSYS 11.0. The beams or solids elements are used to discretize of the rotor system. The results are compared with author's solution in computer program MATLAB R2007a. The calculations of equilibrium position, Campbell's diagram, mode shapes and transient and steady-state component of response of the rotor system were carried out.
