"The present study provides the basic demonstrations of using microscopic methods (optical and scanning electron microscopy) for structural and morphological characterization of materials. Generally, the points to differences in microscopic methods based on the different resolving ability of devices. Detail is dedicated to scanning electron microscopy as a method, which has in recent years, most often used for quick and easy characterization of materials of different types / kinds, from powder to bulk materials. This work presents examples of materials, which the author prepares a characterizes within her experimental work. At the same time are given examples of characterization of objects that have been described in the context of the implementation of two theses. These works draw objects from the depot Silesian Museum in Opava and conservational depository centers Institute of History, Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava. Historical objects from the majority comes from the 19th and 20th centuries.
