"In a knowledge-driven economy, an attention has been strongly focused on the innovation as a key factor of states’ performance and competitiveness. In spite of globalization, regions are becoming important engines of economic development and the role of regions as the critical nexus for innovation-based economic growth has increased. Although, national and state policies create a platform for innovation, innovation activities are increasingly supported at regional level where workers, companies, universities, and government interface most directly. Fostering creativity and innovation of entrepreneurs is the principal challenge of regions to boost their productivity and therefore strengthen the region’s and country’s competitiveness. Regional innovation activities should create the conditions under which enterprises can stimulate and enable their innovative performance. Although, in the European Union most regions’ innovation has improved over time period 2004-2010, regions are still at different levels of innovation performance and have different strengths and weaknesses. The aim of the paper is to evaluate and compare the innovation performance of NUTS 2 regions in the Czech Republic in the year 2011 by using selected multicriteria decision-making methods (MCDM), namely Analytic Hierarchy Process method (AHP) and VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR). The evaluation is based on the approach of The European Regional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS) that provides statistical facts on regions’ innovation performance in the European countries. The regions’ innovative performance will be identified by the selected indicators of RIS (Enablers, Firm Activities and Outputs) and furthermore by added indicator support for business innovation from EU Structural Funds. AHP is used to derive the weights of the indicators. Subsequently, VIKOR method ranks the NUTS 2 regions according to their innovation performance and innovation environment." .
