"The metal wastes containing coolants are currently not further exploited as they are thermally processed in hazardous waste incinerators and stored after this treatment in a separate sector of waste disposal. The article gives an overall characterization of wastes including determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons according to the EPA. Thermal analysis was used for evaluation of the thermal stability of the oil contained in a metal sludge and for calculation of kinetic parameters. Special laboratory pyrolysis unit was used for study of the influence of the proposed process conditions on the development of pyrolysis products at different heating rates. Concentrations of H2, CH4, C3H8, C3H6, C2H6and C2H4 were monitored In the pyrolysis gas depending on the temperature and heating rate. The designed pyrolysis process supposes the use of pyrolysis gas as a chemical agent or as a fuel gas for drives of cogeneration units. The modified metal sludge can be used as a secondary raw material for steelmaking after removal of the liquid fraction (oil content of < 1 wt. %) and after fulfilment of specified conditions. On the basis of the achieved results the optimal heating rate was chosen to be 20\u00B0C/min, at which the oil content (C10-C40) in the processed metal sludge was 0.5 wt %.
