The importance of quality of inventory management becomes more important especially in relation to volume of input raw materials in blast-furnace process. Analysis and inventory management in metallurgical production can utilize the basic logistics methods. The most common tools include volume analysis, which is based on the Paret\u2019s rule, and variability analysis. Both of these very simple tools belong to the inventory classification methods. The differentiation of inventory according to volume and character of consumption is essential for efficiency and purchase planning. Determination of the required inventory buffer level necessary to cover the potential fluctuations in supply is also based on the use of these methods. The methods of inventory classification can also be successfully applied for planning of spare parts requirements. Completely different character of inventory management is usable for items with regular consumption throughout the year and for items that are used only sporadically. Apart from the possible losses arising from lack of stock, consistently high inventory level can mean a cost threat. Many large industrial companies, unfortunately, continue to use intuition in case of inventory management, rather than using serious analysis. Medium and long-term planning requires an exact approach. Apart from the market fluctuations, the whole situation is also complicated because of the delivery time of the necessary stocks. It is not exceptional to meet delivery time in scope of months, even for some regular input raw materials and spare parts. This must be naturally taken into account in their planning."@en .
