Selection of a supplier is a dominant example of decision-making which creates the competitive power of a company. The higher the purchasing possibilities, the higher number of suppliers, i.e. options how to meet the in-house demand, the more important and more demanding it is to make this decision. The decision regarding suppliers is not an easy one, because a number of criteria need to be taken into account, and these criteria involve the entire marketing purchasing mix and other internal and external factors. The quality of selection of the right supplier is tremendously important for economic results of each company and, at the end, for realization of the long-term strategy objectives. In its final stage, it shows itself in the costs, stock and quality and saleability of products and, as a result, in the profit as well. The complex nature of the entire selection procedure for suppliers in industrial companies rests in the multidimensionality of the decision-making process. The suppliers are often evaluated according to dozens of different criteria. In case it is necessary to evaluate many suppliers at the same time, it is necessary to use exact methods.
