"The paper deals with the study of properties of supplied high-energy NdFeB permanent magnets (type N35), equipped with Zn coating to improve their corrosion resistance. Metallographic analysis, the determination of grain size, phase identification using SEM with EDX micro-analyser, measurements of magnetic characteristics and corrosion tests were conducted. Basic matrix phase Nd2Fe14B was identified in the structure of the sample, as well as Nd-rich phase, and structure showed considerable porosity. Furthermore, an oxidic phase Nd(R)0x and Nd(R)xOyFez were found on the grain boundaries and at the point of intersection of three grains. Grain size distribution of the matrix was determined using the software Analysis and it ranged between 10 to 25 m. The measured magnetic characteristics did not entirely correspond to the values indicated by the manufacturer, in particular magnetic product (BH max, which was approx. by 20% lower. Corrosion tests in neutral salt mist performed on five pieces of samples from the magnet N35 were carried out according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 9227 (Method NSS - neutral salt spray test) with an exposure period of 240 hours. The first corrosion products of zinc (rust of coating) occurred in all samples already after 24 hours, which does not meet the requirement for 48 hour exposure without corrosion and the samples from the viewpoint of are unsatisfactory. In three samples first Fe products (corrosion of magnet body) appeared after 240 hours, while the required time of exposition without corrosion was 120 hours. Test results show that the quality of the imported magnets from China may be different." . . "Matějková, Petra" . "Study of properties of high-energy NdFeB permanent magnets"@en . . .
