"Mechanical properties of alloys based on TiAl, especially toughness at room temperature and resistance to creep, depend significantly on the microstructure. Alloys with fully lamellar or nearly lamellar microstructure are characterized by higher resistance to creep and higher toughness, compared to alloys with duplex microstructure, but they have lower ductility and plasticity. Particularly low ductility at room temperature is a typical feature of \u03B3-TiAl alloys, which prevents its wider use. Another drawback of these alloys is smaller oxidation resistance at the temperatures above 700 oC. Impurities, such as oxygen, cause drop in mechanical properties and it is very difficult to prevent contamination due to the high affinity between metals and oxygen. Alloying with a small amount of yttrium is one of the possibilities to improve oxidation resistance and mechanical properties of \u03B3-TiAl alloys. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the effect of yttrium on the dendritic structure, particularly on the dendrite arm spacing of cast alloy TiAl. It is generally known, that reducing the dendrites arms spacing leads to an increase of mechanical properties and to reduction of segregation distances." . "4"^^ . "27360" . "Kursa, Miroslav" .
