"The paper is devoted to presentation of potential of new modern instrument STA 449 F3 Jupiter for thermal analysis of large samples of steel (metal), slags and ferro-alloys. The huge possibilities of this instrument are discussed also by its implementation into Laboratory for Modelling of Processes in the Liquid and Solid Phases - in the project No. CZ.1.05/2.1.00/01.0040 %22Regional Materials Science and Technology Centre%22. This project is solved at the Faculty of metallurgy and materials engineering. Team for this instrument consists of experts from Department of Metallurgy and Foundry and Department of Physical Chemistry and Theory of Technological Processes. The utilization of this instrument is focused mainly for study of solidus and liquidus temperatures of real steels, slags and ferro-alloys as a function of temperature change (heating/cooling). Obtained results will be used for significantly more accurate determining of knowledge about the basic physical properties of solids, and for replacement of tabulated and/or modelled values of temperatures of phase transformations and heat capacities. Such, it will be possible to optimize real technology of steel production by implementation of obtained values directly into plant control system and/or into the settings of numerical models. There is a great opportunity of multi-disciplinary cooperation between university and production company in the frame of such research."@en .
