"One of the most important aggregates of steel plant is the casting ladle. Its high lifetime is guaranteed by lining of high quality refractories. Multiple use of the casting ladles during the working campaign causes the wear of its lining. This wear is given by the erosive and the corrosive effects of the molten metal and slag. Slowing the process of lining wear can be guaranteed not only by choosing the type of refractory materials, as well as other measures, particularly suitable ladles thermal regime. Keeping the temperature of ladles lining on high, as far as possible constant temperatures, positively influences the degree of linings wear. This work is dealt for steel production conditions in the steel plant ArcelorMittal, Ostrava a.s., where in the operation is 31 of two hundred-ton ladles. Because the financial costs on the lining of the casting ladles are very high, there is an emphasis on at least as possible wear.
