Review of the problem and tests and modelling methodology is presented in the 1st Part of this paper. Hot ductility of tool steels was evaluated using torsion test (TT) generally. Dynamic material modelling (DMM) was used rarely for this purpose. Effective fracture strain was used as ductility criterion for TT and efficiency of the power dissipation and instability parameter were used as intrinsic hot ductility criteria for DMM. The results of hot ductility testing using TT and DMM will be presented and discussed in the 2th Part of this paper. Results of the both methods are analogous for strain rates of 1,5 - 12 s-1.
