One possibility how to decrease its magnitude is to couple the rotating and stationary parts through rolling-element bearings and squeeze film dampers. This article deals with incorporation of these constraint elements by means of nonlinear force couplings into computational models of rotor systems. Behaviour of squeeze film dampers is significantly influenced by inertia effects of theoil film. Determination of components of hydraulical ( damping ) forces through which the layers of lubricant act on the inner and outer damper rings requires to know a pressure function that describes the pressure distribution in the oil film. Its calc ulation comes from averaging inertia terms in the Navier-Stokes equation corresponding to the direction of prevailing pressure gradient.
