"2"^^ . . "Is it necessary for students and graduate civil engineers to understand problems of land use and regional planning? Or is it enough to have a good technical background without understanding of impacts and connections of a new building project? Our team of Lecturers recognize that our graduates have a good knowledge and information to create projects on buildings, but they do not have clear idea about questions connected with sustainable development of the whole settlement (a city, a municipality). This article will describe the process of preparing a useful educational structure to give our students opportunity to get basic information and understanding about the urban development quickly and efficiently. The system of preparing the educational structure was based on 4 workshops (during the 2 and half years) with the main idea of each focused on redevelopment of an area which can be denoted as a brownfield. The article describes approach to supervising the students, which we were testing. The text will also inform about how we divided students into groups (students studied different fields of study). Our workshops were attended by students from 6 different faculties from Czech Republic. Also foreign students took part of working groups (usually students from Poland or Slovakia). During each of the workshops we done an evaluation focused on students understanding of problems and their ability to cooperate in a multidisciplinary group (civil engineers, planners of regional development, economists, sociologists, architects, and environmental engineers). The article will show our results. %22Best way%22 how to prepare an educational structure of a workshop (intensive transfer of knowledge in short time) as part of our education system was to give students maximum of useful information, time for thinking about problems and finally guidance on how to find an integrated idea about steps which will be necessary to do for sustainable development of underused areas."@en .
