"A commercial CFD software programme, ANSYS-Fluent, was used to study the low temperature oxidation of coal inside the stockpiled coal. Two dimensional, single-phase model of the coal oxidised inside the stockpile has been developed using the atmospheric boundary layer. The main attention is focused on the influence of geometry and/or porosity of the stockpile towards dynamics of the coal spontaneous heating process. Numerical simulations proved stockpile porosity to be dominant parameter influencing oxidation process of stockpiled coal. As to geometry, slope of the stockpile side is mainly important with evident rise in oxidation process as the slope angel increases."@en .
