A thin layer of high-strength glue is applied between the coated specimen and the counterpart and the load needed to break the sample is evaluated as well as ratio of cohesion:adhesion failure on the fracture surface. During the sample preparation, glue can penetrate into the pores of the coating and thus reinforce the material and invalidate the test results. The aim of this study, carried out for one representative ceramic and metallic coating deposited with Water Stabilized Plasma (WSP) technology, was to estimate the minimum WSP coating thickness for which the influence of the glue is negligible."@en . .
