These effects in connection with natural aging can lead to structural damage up to catastrophic collapse. Maintenance and repairing based on NDT and structural health monitoring (SHM) can prevent such accidents. Practical example of testing supported by SHM system including acoustic emission and nonlinear ultrasonic spectroscopy (NEWS) is discussed in this paper. Overloading test up to break was realized on the roof of an industrial steel hall. SHM system reliably detected and forewarned incoming limit state of the structure already at 60% of failure loading."@en . .
