"The research project, focused on the application of chemical reactive elements in remediation technologies of permeable reactive barriers used to decontaminate underground water strongly contaminated by industrial activities, involved tests of a photoreactor working on the principle of hydrogen peroxide addition in combination with ultraviolet radiation of type C. The photoreactor employs germicidal UV lamps enclosing a cylindrical quartz tube where contaminated water flows after having been enriched with a defined amount of hydrogen peroxide. The area of the former Deza tar works in Ostrava, characterized by its old environmental burden with long-term massive tar phenol contamination of underground water, was selected as a model locality for the source of treated water. The contaminants present are aromatic hydrocarbons in the first place. This project was completed with the financial support from the national budget through the Ministry of Industry and Trade."@en .
